Catherine's Annual Festive Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers
Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.
The sizable congregation will listen to a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Centred Around Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Music and Opportunity
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.
"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.
That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.
Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."
This annual carol service will be aired by television on December 24th.
